Translation internship

1.    Name of the course: Translation internship

2.    Purpose of the course:
a.    to assisst and support students in their search for a career path that will allow them to link their academic interests with the labour market
b.    to prepare students to enter the labour market by familiarising themselves with the realities of their potential future careers and gaining professional experience
c.    to create a context for using linguistic knowledge of English and Translation Studies as well as general cultural knowledge and developing them in a professional context

3.    Main areas covered during the course:
a.    identifying one's own academic interests, skills and competencies that determine the nature of the translation internship and completing the internship in a specific location and position
b.    identifying existing jobs available for the applicant and applying for them in the relevant entities
c.    applying linguistic, cultural and social knowledge and practical language skills and social competences in order to perform the tasks assigned by the institution where the student is carrying out their internship
d.    translation and/or interpreting, CATs, terminology harmonisation, proof-reading, post-editing (detailed scope and text types are internship-dependent)

4.    Didactic methods used:
a.    learning on the job under company mentor's guidance following detailed onboarding
b.    discussion on translation output and other aspects of the internship with company mentor and university trainer
c.    written self-reflection and internship evaluation

5.    Graduate’s profile:
a.    A person who knows and understands the basic conditions (e.g. economic, legal, ethical or social) of professional activities requiring knowledge of English and the basic principles for the creation and development of various forms of entrepreneurship, useful for planning a professional career as a translator; knows and understands basic concepts and principles of copyright law; is familiar with information technologies used by a translator; can interact with others and plan and organise individual and team work; knows how to independently plan and carry out lifelong self-education.
