1. Name of the course: Symultana students' practisearch group

 

2. Purpose of the course:

a. to develop students' interpreting skills

b. to help students explore the theoretical foundations of interpreting and market reality

c. to create opportunities for the students to provide interpreting services withing the academic community, building their dossiers for the sake of future assignments in market conditions

d. to disseminate knowledge about the Translation Division educational offer among secondary school students (workshops run by the group members)

 

3. Main areas covered during the course:

a. simultaneous and consecutive interpreting

b. public service interpreting

c. public presentations and stress management

d. language enhancement

 

4. Didactic methods used:

a. selected skill-oriented recorded consecutive/booth/community interpreting and self/teacher/peer assessment of particular attempts

b. discussion and experience sharing

c. terminology and general language enhancement through content and vocabulary search, speech making and discussions

d. engagement in interpreting assisted events at the university

 

5. Graduate’s profile:

a. Group members have developed their interpreting skills (incl. i.e. research skills and IT aids) and knowledge of market requirements and conditions. They know their strengths and weaknesses and are determined to continuously develop their competences. They proactively search for job assignments in the organization and beyond it, having gained communication practise of reporting on their achievements and raising funds for the group's activity. They disseminate knowledge about interpreting as a profession.
