1. Name of the course: Translation en-pl, pl-en - post-editing module
2. Purpose of the course:
a. to acquire practical skills in post-editing of machine translation output in compliance with industry standards
b. to make students aware of MT-related risks and opportunities
c. to enhance students' linguistic competence (text structure, information flow, thematic-rhematic structure)
d. to familiarize students with post-editing related quality assurance tools and ethical issues
3. Main areas covered during the course:
a. fit-for-purpose post-editing of MT output
b. AI (MT, chatbots etc.) related challenges and opportunities and their impact on translator's profession
c. translation engines (DeepL, Google Translate, Microsoft Translator, e-translation)
d. text organisation, thematic-rhematic structure
4. Didactic methods used:
a. multimedia presentation with discussion
b. hands-on workshop
c. individual and group performed practical exercises involving the post-editing of translation engine output
5. Graduate’s profile:
a. The graduate is aware of the challenges, standards, guidelines and tools, which professional translators and post-editors face and apply in real market conditions. They have regularly experienced the application of the post-editing routines, and are aware of the need and ways to continue their professional development throughout their career, also in terms of adapting their translation activities to the emerging IT tools and applications.
