2. Purpose of the course:

a. to develop translation competence in audiovisual translation based on industry standards

b. to teach students the ways to assess the quality of the translations in accordance with industry practice and theoretical foundations

c. to enhance students' linguistic competence in terms of language styles and varieties across audio visual productions

d. to let students practically apply IT tools supporting AVT

3. Main areas covered during the course:

a. fit-for-purpose translation through the application of AVT constraint-related standards, practices and tools

b. introduction to AVT landscape (constraints and solutions related to subtitling, dubbing and voice-over)

c. AVT market requirements, professional standards

d. linguistic and cultural awareness enhancement for and through fit-for-purpose subtitling with the use of dedicated software

4. Didactic methods used:

a. multimedia presentation with discussion

b. hands-on workshop

c. individual and group translation with discussion

d. mini translation project with feedback

5. Graduate’s profile:

a. The graduate is aware of the challenges, standards, guide-lines and tools, particularly subtitling-related ones, incl. ICT ones, which professional AV translators face and apply in real market conditions. They have regularly experienced the application of the translation and market-related knowledge, competences and tools, and are aware of the need and ways to continue their professional development throughout their career.
