UM-Dearborn Guest Student Application for University of Gdańsk Students

Dear UG Students interested in attending a class taught by professors of University of Michigan Dearborn in the Spring semester!

Between May 4 and June 23, 2023, meeting once a week for a full day (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday)  three classes will be offered by UM-D teachers (Visiting Professors at UG)

1. HHS 340: Global Environmental Justice in the Era of Climate Change and COVID-19

UofM Credits: 3 (typically 6 ECTS); Professor Natalie Sampson; UG coordinator: dr Elżbieta Czapka, WNS

This course introduces students to global environmental justice issues whereby some communities are burdened much more than others by pollution or toxic exposures and inadequate environmental protections. In particular, we will examine how these issues emerge alongside society’s pressing related challenges, particularly climate change, our ongoing racial reckoning, and pressing public health issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. OB 354: Behavior in Organizations

UofM Credits: 3 (typically 6 ECTS); Prof. Julie Felker; UG coordinator: dr hab. Angelika Kędzierska-Szczepaniak, prof. UG, WE

Survey course addressing the theory and practical application of organizational behavior concepts at the individual, group, and organizational levels. Topics include: personality and attitudes, motivation, groups and teams, leadership, power, ethics, structure and organizational design, culture, and decision-making.

3. SOC/CRJ 435/535: Urban Sociology

UofM Credits: 3 (typically 6 ECTS); Professor Paul Draus; UG coordinator: Grzegorz Welizarowicz, WF

An overview of the form and development of urban communities with respect to demographic structure and functional organization, viewing the city as a source of conflict, creativity and social change. Issues of urban social problems, urban planning and urban futures are all considered

15 students in each class will be American students at UM-D who are coming to UG for two months. There are ten seats in each class allotted to the UG students, at no cost.

REQUIREMENTS for UG students as stated by the UM-D (institution offering the class):

  1. English competence B2 or higher
  2. Covid vaccine (or request medical or religious exemption)
  3. Since UG students will be listed as Non-Degree Guest Students at UM-D, Guest Application must be submitted in accordance with UM-D regulations.
