1. Name of the course: MA seminar in translation

 

2. Purpose of the course:

a. to guide students towards acquiring specialized knowledge of the subject matter of their MA thesis

b. to prepare students for the task of conducting more advanced translation studies and completing their MA theses

c. to facilitate the exploration of Translation Studies methodologies, including methods of drawing conclusions, justifying claims and verifying hypotheses

d. to teach students how to apply the metalanguage of their discipline in writing and speaking (public presentation of students' theses)

 

3. Main areas covered during the course:

a. methodology, methods and key focus areas of Translation Studies

b. research ethics, routine (reliable source selection, best practices) and process management

c. clarity of reasoning

d. written and spoken academic English, proofreading and revising

 

4. Didactic methods used:

a. translation Studies research reviews (text selection, presentation and discussion)

b. individual and group work with texts

c. conceptual designing (brainstorming)

d. in-class presentation of research progress

 

5. Graduate’s profile:

a. The graduate has mastered the skills of designing and conducting research in the TS sub-discipline of their choice. They have completed writing and proofreading of their MA thesis and feel confident about presenting and defending its assumptions, design, conclusions and implications, using their deepened knowledge of translation theories and presentation skills.
